New Year’s Eve Countdown at Wilshire Grand

Experiential design studio StandardVision announced today the second annual New Year’s Eve lighting event on the Wilshire Grand Center tower in Downtown LA.

Titled “Breathe”—representing the breath of the city—the entire tower will breathe in and out, each breath growing more frequent in anticipation of a new year to bring change and new possibilities.

At sunset on New Year’s Eve, the tallest skyscraper west of the Mississippi will slowly begin to breathe a bright white light visible within a 15-mile radius surrounding Los Angeles—increasing in speed and intensity as the evening draws closer to the new year. Just before midnight, the tower will display a 30-second countdown; and at the stroke of 12:00, the tower will transform into a medley of inspirational color, welcoming the year 2019 until daylight breaks.

The iconic LA skyscraper is owned by Hanjin International Corp. (“Hanjin”) and includes the 889-room InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown hotel, cutting-edge restaurants, and an expansive office complex.

Soaring 1,100 feet into the sky, the tower is the tallest structure on the Los Angeles skyline.https://vimeo.com/308619171“While New York City has its world-renowned ‘ball drop’ in Times Square, Los Angeles now has its very own visual New Year’s Eve celebration, giving Angelenos an exciting new annual tradition,” said Adrian Velicescu, StandardVision CEO & Chief Creative Officer. “This New Year’s light show carries on the new tradition for this iconic property. Through our partnership with Hanjin, the Wilshire Grand Center and its dynamic narrative lighting elements act as a beacon of civic and national pride, and New Year’s Eve marks the culmination of light celebrations throughout the year.”

The grandeur of the Wilshire Grand Center’s New Year’s Eve lighting event can be viewed from areas with a clear view of the DTLA skyline. In addition, Intercontinental’s Spire 73 rooftop bar will host a New Year’s Eve celebration atop the illuminated tower. For tickets visit New Years Eve at Spire 73.

StandardVision started designing the Wilshire Grand Center lighting in 2012. In 2016, StandardVision installed the lights in tandem with construction of the tower. When the property finally opened in 2017, StandardVision lit the tower for the first time and has managed and operated the lighting ever since.
